SPIRITS OF THE LAND
In 2021, Maree Clarke (Mutti Mutti/Yorta Yorta/BoonWurrung) and Mitch Mahoney’s (BoonWurrung/Barkinji) Spirit Eel projection Ancestral Memory connected Hamer Hall’s iconic façade to deeper timeline.
The 5,6,16 or 72 route trams also rattled past, adorned with a sacred gathering, Mookies Around the Waterhole—a work created by Elder, artist, cultural teacher and advocate Aunty Zeta Thomson.
Now, Aunty Zeta will tell another First Peoples’ story for RISING 2023—Spirits Of The Land. This time it’s her opportunity to use Hamer Hall as a canvas, and the façade will radiate with large-scale digital projections that connect to Aunty Zeta’s Wurundjeri/Yorta Yorta culture and stories from her family.
